Suspending a Prescription in British Columbia

When a prescription is suspended in a British Columbia pharmacy, it is inactivated on the LOCAL system without transmitting to PharmaNet. The Active flag is removed from the profile and all remaining refills are retained. The suspended indicator *S* appears in the profile. If this is a non-retail prescription, the group Rx status changes to an inactive status.

Suspend Rx provides the ability to temporarily inactivate a prescription until a specified date, at which time PharmaClik Rx automatically reactivates the prescription. The prescription automatically re-activates on the specified date; if the prescription is non-retail, it returns to its previous active group Rx status (e.g. a prescription that was previously a ‘W’ group Rx status will return to ‘W’).

  1. Open the patient’s profile.
  2. Press the Active flag for the prescription.
  3. The Inactivate Rx prompt appears. Choose Suspend Rx and enter a date in the reactivate on field.
  4. Press the OK button.
  5. The Discontinued Prescription window appears. Enter notes in the Prescription Note box
  6. Make a selection from the Discontinued By dropdown list.
  7. Press the OK button.
  8. The screen returns to the profile and the Active flag is deselected for the prescription. Press the Save or OK button. (The available button depends on the how you accessed the profile).

Note: NOTHING IS TRANSMITTED TO PHARMANET.
